Spring into March in Kettering

March is a great time to get outdoors and make the most of longer days across Kettering and the wider North Northamptonshire area. Whether you’re looking to boost your wellbeing, reduce car journeys or simply enjoy local green space, there are plenty of opportunities for residents to get moving this month.

On Sunday 8 March, the annual Kettering Half Marathon & 5K returns, starting and finishing at Wicksteed Park. While it’s a race event, it brings a strong community atmosphere and highlights the benefits of walking, running and using our local routes more actively. Residents can support participants or use it as inspiration to explore local paths and parks themselves. Kettering Half Marathon & 5k | 8th March 2026

Throughout March, local wellbeing walks also take place in and around Kettering, offering friendly, organised group walks suitable for a range of abilities. These walks are a good way to meet others, discover new routes and build regular activity into your week. Kettering walking group | North Northamptonshire Council

Schools in the area will also be taking part in Big Walk and Wheel, delivered nationally by Sustrans from 16–27 March. Families may notice more pupils walking, cycling or scooting to school during this period. As a community, we can support this by driving considerately, keeping pavements clear and encouraging safe, active journeys where possible.

Small changes — walking to the local shop, cycling short errands, or enjoying a weekend park visit — all contribute to healthier lifestyles and a more sustainable neighbourhood. March is an ideal time to start.
