RESIDENTIAL SURVEY TIME – HAVE A CUPPA ON US

In October, GetMe2 surveyed our residents to ask them how they travel!

Residents received a little box of goodies along with our annual travel surveys.

It took two of us a lot of practice, a lot of KitKats, and many, many cups of coffee to hand-build 1400 of these boxes. Delivery included walking 85 miles and 170,000 steps around the sites in just 3 days!

In the past, we have offered prizes which ranged from Amazon gift vouchers, Supermarket vouchers or donations to a local food bank increasing in price to try and engage residents. These offers, however, didn’t appear to encourage participation from the residents.

This year we decided to change the idea of winning a prize, to opening a gift for a guaranteed reward for completing the survey. This also provided an opportunity to remind residents of GetMe2’s role as TPC.

This surveying technique meant nearly all sites had a response rate of above 10%, with a number of sites reaching above 20%, compared to a relatively poor sub-10% experienced previously.

The comment section on the surveys also provided valuable insight in residents thoughts and needs for travelling around their home.

Each box contained a KitKat, tea bags and the survey leaflet and was produced at a relatively low cost.

The response rates were unmatched to previous years, with all sites seeing an increase in response rates. Most saw an increase of around 10% and one site even saw an increased response rate of 16%. Having credible results is important for monitoring how residents are travelling and also minimises the requirements for alternative costly survey methods such as multi-modal surveys.

The success of this small change has altered our perspective and given us a better idea of how to promote our engagement with our sites.

 

We are currently in the procoess of submitting Monitoring Reports to update the Local Authorities on the survey results as well as the work undertaken as TPC this year.
