Brief Description
SAJ Expert Witness helps to secure planning approval at appeal for residential development
Key Objectives
SAJ prepared a Transport Assessment (TA), Travel Plan (TP) and the transport chapter in the Environmental Statement (ES) for a residential development of 350 executive dwellings in West Moor.
The TA included an assessment of the potential impacts of the development on the surrounding network for all road users; drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and equestrians.
The TA proposed a new site access and links to ensure the development maximised and improved its connections to the surrounding pedestrian, cycle, bridleways and public rights of way networks.
Despite support from the highways officers at North Tyneside Council, Newcastle City Council (as the neighbouring authority) and the Highways Agency Councillors cited highways as a reason for refusal.
The decision was appealed by Bellway and SAJ provide expert witness evidence at the Public Inquiry.
Outcomes
Expert witness statements and evidence at the Public Inquiry addressed the highways concerns of the Local Authority and third party objectors, contributing to planning approval
