Our inclusive cycling sessions are designed to make cycling accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities, special educational needs, injuries, or other health conditions. Each session includes dedicated 1:1 support to help you progress at your own pace.
Thanks to funding from the Consolidated Active Travel Fund (CATF), Sunderland Young People’s Bike Project is delighted to offer a series of FREE Learn to Ride sessions, delivered by nationally accredited cycling instructors.
These sessions are ideal for anyone aged 5+ who can balance but isn’t yet able to pedal independently without stabilisers. They’re perfect for those who have moved on from a balance bike—though we can also support riders at that stage if needed.
You’re welcome to bring your own bike, as this can really help with ongoing confidence and development. However, we can provide bikes and helmets if required, including a range of sizes and specialised options such as balance bikes and pedal-free bikes. Just let us know in advance if you have any specific requirements.
The sessions focus on building balance and confidence first, before helping riders progress to pedalling when they’re ready.
Location: Thompson Park cycling skills area (in the centre of the park, between the large slide and zip wire)
